What a private GP consultation actually involves

A consultation with one of our doctors is unhurried. We schedule thirty minutes by default — sixty if the situation warrants it — so there is time to listen properly, examine carefully, and explain what we find without watching the clock.

During your appointment your doctor will discuss your symptoms and full medical history, perform a relevant physical examination, arrange any necessary investigations, and provide a clear diagnosis with a written treatment plan. Where specialist input is needed, we refer onward into our trusted network of consultants on Harley Street.

What we can help with

Our private GPs see the full breadth of general practice — acute illnesses such as infections, fevers, and unexplained pain; ongoing chronic-disease management; mental-health concerns; preventative care and screening; and the routine matters that benefit from a thoughtful second opinion.

Where we can add the most value is continuity. The same doctor who sees you today can hold your record, follow up on results, coordinate referrals, and remain your point of contact. That continuity is rare in fragmented care; it sits at the centre of how we work.

Rapid access to tests and referrals

As part of your consultation we can arrange:

  • Same-day or rapid blood tests at our in-house phlebotomy
  • Urine analysis, ECG, and lung-function testing on site
  • Imaging — MRI, CT, and ultrasound — through our neighbouring radiology partners
  • Referrals to consultant specialists within our trusted Harley Street network

The pathway from concern to diagnosis to treatment is designed to remove waiting wherever it can be removed.

Who books a private GP consultation

Patients come to us when they need urgent or same-day medical advice, when they want a more thorough consultation than a typical NHS slot allows, when they need fast access to tests or imaging, or when they are looking for ongoing personalised care from a doctor who knows them.

You do not need to be registered with the practice to book — but many patients return for routine matters once they have seen us once.

Do you offer same-day appointments?

Yes. We hold same-day GP appointments most weekdays subject to availability. Appointments may also be booked up to one month in advance, online or by phone.

How long is a consultation?

A standard private GP consultation runs for thirty minutes — long enough for a thorough history, examination, diagnosis, and a clear treatment plan. A sixty-minute slot is available for more complex concerns.

Do I need to register with the practice?

No. You can book a private GP consultation directly without registration. We are open to all and your records remain with us if you choose to return.

Can the doctor arrange tests and referrals?

Yes. As part of your consultation we can arrange same-day blood tests, urine analysis, imaging (MRI, CT, ultrasound), and referrals to specialists within our trusted Harley Street network.

Are you regulated?

London Harley Street Practice is registered with the Care Quality Commission. All of our doctors are GMC-registered with many years of NHS and private experience.

Do you offer membership?

Yes — three tiers of membership are available depending on how often you expect to use the practice. See the membership page for details.
